- (1) Is there a residency requirement for filing a name change petition in Illinois?
- Answer: Yes. Pursuant to Section 21-101 of the Illinois Statutes, you must reside in Illinois for a period of six (6) months before filing a name change petition.

- Answer: In the Circuit Court for the county in which the petitioner resides.
- (3) Do separate petitions need to be filed for different members of the same family who wish to change their last names?
- Answer: No. A single petition can be filed on behalf of the petition, his or spouse, and children.
